Chile’s land-based casino industry recorded gross gaming win of CLP513.7bn (£425.8m) across 2023, with visits to the 25 premises up by 12 per cent.


The gross win translated to an increase of 9.1 per cent year-on-year, but gross win in December 2023 dropped by 4.7 per cent from December 2022.

The figure was accompanied by a 4.5 per cent rise in tax collection to CLP195.7bn (£162.3m). However, casino taxes in December 2023 reached CLP15.7bn (£13m), 4.7 per cent lower than in December 2022.

Of the total casino taxes for 2023 in Chile, CLP83.9bn (£69.6m) went to communities and regional governments while CLP82bn (£68m) went to VAT on gaming.

A further CLP29.8bn (£24.7m) was generated in ticket taxes.

Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego, which regulates gaming activity in Chile, said 7.12 million people were registered as entering the 25 casinos in operation, this figure increasing by 12 per cent compared to 2022.

In addition, during 2023, the average expense per player was CLP76,042 (£63.04), a 12 per cent decrease on the 2022 figure.
