Bermuda casino plan falls apart

Home » Bermuda casino plan falls apart

A plan to open a luxury hotel in Bermuda has collapsed, as delays deterred a US gaming company.

The plan was for a casino at the Hamilton Princess and Beach Club, said The Royal Gazette newspaper. Century Casinos was behind the project that so far has been in development for eight years.

Century has now said that the legislative framework currently in the Bermuda made it unlikely that the project could be completed.

The hotel has announced that it is stopping its search for a casino partner until a “viable path forward” can be provided by the Bermuda Gaming Commission.

Bermuda has no casino currently. Both the Hamilton Princess and the St Regis Hotel have been granted provisional licences, but no location has yet been opened. A maximum four casinos had been approved by legislation in 2014.
