Gambling will be offered at Crown Resorts’ new Sydney resort “early in 2022,” said the casino operator.

The venue opened a year ago, but with the ongoing Crown troubles with the regulators over governance failures, the 75-floor tower complex has remained without a gambling licence for the past 12 months.

Having replaced its board and been given a – reluctant – bill of health by the authorities, Crown made an analyst presentation at the location on Sydney’s waterfront. The Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority had given Crown credit for “good progress”on overhauling its systems.

The relaxing of Australia’s Covid rules in recent weeks had seen business begin to pick up at the Crown locations in Melbourne and Perth – where a separate investigation is still under way – and new CEO Steve McCann went on record at the Sydney briefing with “we’ve turned the corner.”
