New Crown CEO will dump junkets

The new CEO at Crown Resorts is ex-Wynn Macau CEO Ciaran Carruthers, who has been appointed by Crown’s new owners, Blackstone.

The Australian casino group will no longer be pursuing “the old junket model,” he asserted this week to the Australian media. Crown, he said, would not be relying on Chinese VIPs coming back to the Australian market.

However, Carruthers said that Crown would continue to cater for international tourists.

Carruthers has a major task on his hands to transform Crown after regulators found it unsuitable to hold a casino licence after long-term investigations. Now it can continue to operate, but under the close eye of the regulators.
