Tabcorp faces probe for allegedly allowing minor to gamble

Tabcorp could face a maximum fine of almost AU$699,000 if it is found guilty of allegedly allowing a minor to gamble.

The operator, along with eight venues, are under investigation by the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission for the alleged offences between September 8 and November 1 last year.

The total collective fine the venue operators and a TAB agency would face if found guilty is over $1m, while Tabcorp individually could be fined $698,997.60.

The venues in question include the Olympic Hotel, the Brunswick Club, the Edwardes Lake Hotel and the Parkview Hotel.

The Albion Charles Hotel, the Doncaster Hotel, the Rose Shamrock & Thistle Hotel and the Northcote TAB Agency are also facing the probe.

The VGCC alleges a total of 54 charges, including 27 counts of allowing a minor to gamble and failing to reasonably supervise its electronic betting terminals.

VGCCC CEO Annette Kimmitt said: “One of the most serious harms is allowing minors to gamble. All gambling venues must ensure they do not accept a bet from a minor and must ask for identification from anyone they suspect could be underage.”
