The Preston Hotel in Victoria has been ordered to pay AU$25,300 by the Australian state regulator for allowing a minor to gamble.
The Victoria Gambling and Casino Control Commission charged the property in May this year after a tip-off from a member of the public.
The minor, the regulator said, was allowed access to betting terminals and gambled at the hotel on six occasions between May and September last year.
The Magistrate making the ruling reduced the fine due to the Preston Hotel’s willingness to enter an early plea and take steps to improve on its failings.
VGCCC CEO Annette Kimmitt said: “It is inexcusable to accept a bet from a minor. This sends a clear message to the entire industry. Failing to prevent minors from accessing gambling products won’t be tolerated.”
The VGCCC added that eight further venues will face action in court after being charged in September.
