Outlook unsettled for Macau casinos

Home » Outlook unsettled for Macau casinos

According to a gaming business analyst, the outlook for Macau’s casinos is not looking good, after revenues in September went down.

The Nevada Independent reported that travel restrictions from mainland China and the resolute attitude towards Covid by the authorities in the territory has seen GGR in Macau dropping by 53 per cent.

There are hopes that travel bans from five mainland provinces will be loosened by early November. It would make a big difference to the six Macau casino operators who have seen GGR reach $370m in September, nearly half of that of 2021.

The speculation now is that a real recovery back to normal will not happen until mid-2023.
