MGM Resorts president and CEO Bill Hornbuckle said that construction on its integrated resort in Osaka, Japan is expected to begin in the second half of 2024.

The venue, planned for construction on reclaimed land called Yumeshima Island, is destined to make history as Japan’s first and, so far, only approved casino property.

Hornbuckle made the remarks in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, saying: “We’re looking forward to signing our area development plan this fall and starting in earnest on the ground, hopefully, by middle to late next year in terms of pylons and beginning construction. We’re shooting for a 2030 opening.”

The development plan was submitted in April 2022 and approved in principle in April this year.

When asked about other possible international or domestic ventures for MGM Resorts, Hornbuckle revealed there is “dialogue and conversation around Thailand” as well as Texas and Georgia, but that “Japan and New York are the two places we’re putting our foothold.”
