Kangwon Land, South Korea’s only casino resort where nationals of the country are permitted to gamble, has agreed to extend the temporary closure of its gaming venue for a sixth time.

It now says it will reopen at 6am on April 20, a date that would mean that the resort has nearly two months of suspension.

The initial casino closure notice was identified as a precautionary measure relating to the Covid-19 pandemic, which has severely affected the region, by the promoter of the resort, Kangwon Land, .

Kangwon Land had initially declared that the casino would be temporarily closed from noon on February 23 to 6am on February 26, and then extended the new extension to April 6 on five consecutive occasions.

In a Friday filing – at the time the sixth extension to the closure was announced – the firm said it expected its missed casino revenue amounting to KRW296bn (US$ 239.6m) from the start of the casino closure on February 23.
