IGT suing US Department of Justice

IGT is suing the US Department of Justice to get clarification of what is legal under the 1961 Wire Act.

IGT is posing the question of whether “the choice of either fundamentally restructuring (or closing) its business, or risking a federal felony prosecution,” the Boston Globe reported.

The issue to be clarified stems from a Trump administration DOJ ruling that the Wire Act determines all interstate online gaming to be illegal, not just sports betting.

That decision reversed an Obama administration DOJ ruling and now the Biden administration DOJ’s position appears to be closer to that of the Obama administration.
