Wynn Resorts Limited, a globally recognized developer of high quality hotels and casinos, has publicly announced its intention to build another entertainment property across the street from Everett-based Encore Boston Harbor casino, on Broadway. However, it needs approval from the Massachusetts regulator in the form of another gambling license, to include poker rooms and sports betting there.

Layout of the proposed casino:

Although, 13-acre site now contains only parking lots, the proposed casino by Wynn will offer two hotels with ballrooms, a theater, three parking garages, restaurants and clubs.

The first phase of the proposed casino project will involve the construction of a 2,100-space parking garage, a poker room, a sports bar, a nightclub that can accommodate nearly 1,000 people, a roof deck “day club,” a 980-seat theater and a 200-seat comedy club. This part of the casino would be connected to the main casino through a pedestrian bridge over Broadway (Route 99).

The second phase of the proposed casino project will involve the construction of two hotels (the first with 500 and the second with more than 300 rooms). Each hotel will include ballrooms, restaurant, retail areas and garages with 450 spaces.

And the final phase of the proposed casino project will include the construction of a two-story building, which will contain restaurants and shops.

The company invested 1.8 million US dollars in the development of the casino.

Step by step:

Wynn is wasting no time in completing the necessary steps to bring its plan to fruition and it’s already secured approval for the first phase of the project: Everett’s Planning board granted site plan approval last week and the City Council will vote on Monday, December 12, on the necessary zoning change to enable the establishment of a gambling facility.

Obtaining a new license:

To offer poker rooms and sports betting in the new building, Wynn needs approval in the form of a license from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

However, the regulator approved Encore’s sports betting license last week, so it’s only a matter of time before the company gets a new license for this new casino.

Selection of leaders:

Big Night Entertainment Group will manage most of the blocks of the new building, expect poker and sports betting areas.

Its plan is to move its Memoire nightclub from Encore casino to the new building, to make way for an overhead walkway and promote itself in a larger complex equipped with newer technology and outdoor decks.

Ed Kane, partner at Big Night, said: “I’m impressed with the creativity that Wynn and Elkus Manfredi Architects have shown in designing the new building.

Whatever way of Broadway you approach it from, you’re not going to miss this building. It’s going to be a statement peace…The design is fantastic.”

The new build is estimated to employ about 800 people, the majority being from Big Night.
