Sydney gaming show on schedule for August

It is looking increasingly likely that the Australian gaming show will be a domestic event.

Organiser Chris Muir, CEO of the Gaming Technologies Association, the owners of the AGE – the Australasian Gaming Expo – told us that everything is on schedule to run the show this year after Covid-19 saw it postponed in 2020.

The show is set for August 10-12 at the International Convention Centre in Sydney. Normally the event is very much a clubs occasion, catering for the members’ clubs that provide the majority of locations for Australian and New Zealand casino slots. It also caters for the 13 casinos in Australia and six in New Zealand.

But it would normally host a considerable number of international visitors, from the US, the Pacific Rim and Europe.

Said Muir: “It should be a relatively normal AGE. Some of the finer detail will no doubt be a little different, given contact tracing and surface sanitation requirements, but not the big things such as the general look and atmosphere of the show.

“I cannot see any significant relaxation of Australia’s border control before the date of the show, so it will be Australia and NZ visitors only, I would assume. Mostly that would not impact the exhibition experience, other than the absence of overseas-based staff on some stands, mostly the larger ones.”
