The Star Entertainment Group, the major Australian casino operator, has furloughed 90 per cent of its staff at its casinos in Sydney, the Gold Coast and Brisbane.
The move is a reaction to the pandemic effects that have slashed the group’s revenues through lockdowns and other restraints.
At The Star around 8,100 members of staff are affected in what the company said was “a very difficult, but necessary” decision. Senior management are also included in the move. Directors are also foregoing “a significant percentage” of their fees and salaries.
Star is providing two weeks of paid pandemic leave and staff will also be able to claim annual holidays and long-service leave entitlements.
