A survey in Ontario, Canada, suggests that the population is not taking readily to sports betting.
The Canadian Press published a survey after the first three months since the launch of sports betting in the province by Canada Sports Betting. It shows that the majority of people in the province have not yet wagered.
The survey covered 1,222 people between July 19-20 on regulated sports betting following its launch on April 4.
Asked if they were aware of the launch, 55 per cent said that they were not and of those indicating an interest, 55.5 per cent said that they had not yet had a bet. Ten per cent of those said that they wagered monthly and 8.7 per cent said that they had a bet on a daily basis.
Nearly half, 46.9 per cent, said that they were not interested in online sports betting and another 13.9 per cent said that they were lukewarm on the subject.
