Norway clamps down on TV gambling ads

TV channel Discovery Europe has dropped the advertising of gambling in Norway, after pressure from the country’s media authority.

The regulator, Medietilsynet, had demanded that Discovery stops the ads on its Max, Vox, FEM and Eurosport channels, but Discovery had initially contested the ruling.

Medietilsynet then ordered the Norwegian channels to stop the broadcasts of Discovery channels with an August 15 deadline.

Although two of the channels contested the order, citing an international basis for their use covered by EEA regulations, Discovery eventually agreed to conform.
