Las Vegas is in temporary lockdown as the casino resorts there close for the remainder of the coronavirus emergency.

MGM Resorts today issued a statement announcing the closure of its Las Vegas properties, but it only joins with a string of similar announcements from across the US gaming industry.

MGM closes as of tomorrow (March 17) and has quickly followed up with its Detroit property, while Eldorado Resorts has shut down its Grand Victoria Casino in Illinois for two weeks and Wynn has temporarily closed its big resort casino in Las Vegas.

Across Europe other companies are taking similar action and a similar picture is emerging from other parts of the world too. Today, The Star Entertainment Group in Australia has taken less dramatic action.

The Star is deactivating every second slot and table game to give added distance between players, cutting down on the capacity of tables and restricting the number of guests who can use the F&B outlets.
