Top lawyer Anthea Platt has been sworn in as chair of the Gauteng Gambling Board, South Africa’s major gambling jurisdiction.
Platt will be assisted by Timothy Sukazi, who was appointed deputy.
The new board has been put together by the Gauteng government to strengthen its governance, reports the trade journal Gaming for Africa. Minister Parks Tau said that the gambling industry was critical to Gauteng’s economy and the new board was to accelerate socio-economic inclusivity .
He wished the new board would drive the transformation of the industry. The GGB has collected taxes of over R14bn (€790.9m) for the provincial government since its inception.
