The first year of legalised sports betting in the US state of Arizona saw $5bn staked, reports the Cronkite News.

It all began for Arizona on September 9, 2021, and the total wagered in those 12 months is higher than anyone expected, notably Chris Boan, the lead writer for BetArizon.com, who is quoted in the news story.

“A year ago I was thinking maybe if the state is lucky it might at some point this year hit $500m for wagers in a single month. It has hit that total three times and on two other months was only just short.”
