The Swedish government has submitted a bill to the Riksdag with proposals aimed at increasing consumer protection and fighting crime in connection with games for money.

The bill proposes, among other things, that a written requirement shall apply to telephone sales of games. The consumer must accept an offer in writing after the telephone call for the agreement to be valid.

It also stipulates that gambling companies with a Swedish gambling licence must be given the right to access personal data about finances and health that the players themselves have provided in order to be able to counteract excessive gambling.

Also, penalty fees should be increased for gambling companies that violate the Money Laundering Act. The changes to the law are proposed to come into force on April 1, 2024.
