A bounce-back is indicated in initial reports for 2021 from casino operator Star Entertainment Group in Australia.
The gaming group with the major Sydney licence, said that from January 1 to May 3, 2021, revenue was up 37 per cent compared with the same period the previous year, when casinos were closed in March. Group domestic gaming revenue was up 35 per cent over the same period.
Although revenue was still down on the same period in 2019, the company said trading had improved as pandemic restrictions were eased.
It reported that from January 1 to May 3, 2021, slots were up 3 per cent year-on-year, the Gold Coast was up 18 per cent and only Sydney had lagged with domestic gaming revenues down 22 per cent.
The company operates the casinos in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sydney.
