Industry leader calls for debit cards in AWPs

A call to permit debit cards to be used on AWP machines has been made by UK trade association BACTA.

Its CEO, John White (pictured), has written to the new gambling minister Damien Collins asking that the rules that demand games should be initiated using cash be brought up to date in the upcoming government white paper on gambling.

The rules have quickly been overtaken by society’s use of debit cards for payments, notably since the pandemic, and there are fears that AWP-type gaming machines are going to suffer lower income with less cash being carried in the pockets of players.
