Galaxy Entertainment and MGM Resorts are exploring potential gambling facilities in Thailand, according to unnamed sources cited by Bloomberg.
The operators are looking for a head start, as the House of Representatives in Thailand approved a proposal by a special house committee to establish multiple casino resorts in the country, Bloomberg reported.
Enabling legislation for Thailand casinos could come in the next 12 months, GGRAsia quoted a parliamentary advisor at G2E Asia last week. It is also expected Thailand will implement a regulatory structure similar to Singapore.
MGM was among the companies that spoke to the committee looking into legalising casinos before the general election in May.
Galaxy is also exploring gaming operations in the United Arab Emirates, the sources said, with the operator setting up offices in both countries, Bloomberg reported.
