Operator Churchill Downs has applied for a casino licence in Vigo County, Indiana, US, proposing a $240m investment to build a new venue.

Churchill Downs, owner and operator of the famous Kentucky Derby horse race,  wants to build the Queen of Terre Haute Casino Resort there.

The application has gone into the Indiana Gaming Commission for the licence and has been granted a Certificate of Suitability by the authority.

The proposal now awaits the final confirmation of the pending non-renewal of a prior licence holder. If all goes to plan then a new subsidiary of Churchill Downs will build the venue, featuring 1,000 slots, 50 table games, a 125-room hotel, TwinSpires Sportsbook and F&B facilities.
