Churchill Downs’ Owensboro Racing & Gaming venue is set to open in Q1 2025, the company has stated.


The new property is set to be the seventh historical horse racing entertainment venue in the state of Kentucky. The approximately 20-acre site is planned to boast 600 historical racing machines, a retail sportsbook and simulcast wagering on top of hospitality amenities.

Meanwhile, Churchill Downs’ has also received approval from the Town of Dumfries to open Phase One of The Rose Gaming Resort with 500 more historical racing machines than originally planned.

The Northern Virginia venue, scheduled to open by the end of September 2024, may now host up to 1,650 machines.

Bill Carstanjen, CEO of CDI, said: “We are proud to invest nearly half a billion dollars in Northern Virginia and look forward to creating local jobs and a world class gaming destination.”

The news comes as Churchill Downs also announces its Q4 2023 results. Net revenue was announced at $561.2m, up from $480.1m in Q4 2022. Adjusted EBITDA was $219.1m, up from $180.7m

This put the full year’s figures at $2.46bn up against 2022’s figure of $1.81bn. Adjusted EBITDA was $1.02bn against 2022’s figure of 764m
