Century Casinos begin expansion work

Work began this week on the new casino and hotel being built by Century Casinos of Colorado, US, at Caruthersville, Missouri.

The project will see the completed venue offering 650 slots – with the option of adding another 140 later – table games, F&B and a 38-room hotel providing scenic views over the Mississippi River.

The location is slated to open later in 2024 and will cost $51.9m. The casino will replace the Lady Luck riverboat casino that has since been shifted to a temporary location on a barge, forced upon the company by record low levels of water in the river earlier this year. It was the last remaining riverboat casino on the Mississippi.

John Payne, president and chief operating officer of VICI Properties, which is providing the capital for Century Casinos’ expansion plans, said the Century team has “significantly enhanced” its performance at its properties since VICI joined forces in 2019.
