Alabama’s tourism committee has approved a plan for five casinos, two satellite casinos, sports betting and a lottery as well as a state gambling commission to regulate gambling.
The two-bill plan is now in line for a vote in the state’s Senate.
If the bill is approved, reports local news source al.com, it would create a single licence for casinos at Victoryland in Macon County, Birmingham Race Track, Greenetrack in Greene County and at the Mobile County Greyhound Racing Facility. The plans also allow for a casino operated by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians in either DeKalb or Jackson County.
The legislation would also see the creation of an Alabama Education Lottery and satellite casinos with limted electronic games in Houston Country and Lowndes County.
Under the proposals, the state would impose a 20 per cent tax on net gambling revenues for casinos and sports betting.
