Members club based in Victoria, Australia Altona RSL has been found guilty of allowing a minor to gamble and ordered to pay $8,160.

The RSL pled guilty to allowing a 16-year-old to enter a gaming machine area and gamble for 10 minutes in September 2022. The company was charged in August 2023 following a tip-off from a member of the public.

The payment ordered comprises a fine of $4,000 and $4,160 in legal costs.

The magistrate handing down the sentence said that had the RSL not pled guilty and taken proactive steps to prevent it happening again, the penalty would have been higher.

“We will continue to pursue venues that contravene their responsibilities to stop minors from gambling,” said VGCCC CEO Annette Kimmitt AM. “This outcome puts smaller operators on notice that they are not above being held to account.”
