When talking about the 80s glam metal bands that had direction and purpose, it’s hard not to mention Twisted Sister, a band whose electrifying stage presence, unrelenting badass attitude, and open rebellion against conformist subjection amassed a huge true-blue fan base that continues to grow to date. And perhaps the greatest catalyst to all that, especially the group’s notoriety, is their lead singer, Dee who once appeared before the US Senate in a cutoff t-shirt, ragged jeans, and shaggy hair as a ploy to blindside the committee, not to mention that not so long ago, he openly stopped the now president of the United States from using one of the band’s songs for his campaign.

During a recent appearance on Trunk Nation, Dee was asked if Twisted Sister would ever appear again on stage, 4 years after completing a farewell tour dedicated to the band’s late drummer A.J Pero. He responded: “I have got no plans for it… the idea of being a hundred on that stage terrifies me…” He also added to say that he did not want the last memory of the band and himself to be olds dudes lumbering on stage. Jay Jay French, one of the band’s guitarists, however, contradicted that when he appeared on the Neil Jones Rock Show with his optimistic comments: “I never said we weren’t coming back… I ‘m not gonna say never.”

So are we going to be seeing an onstage reunion any time soon? Well, that’s highly doubtful. We mean, have you seen how portly and work-shy these dudes have gotten. Also, the band is not desperate to get on stage as it has been cashing in huge from licensing their songs to movies, shows, commercials, as well as any other interested party, which brings to the brand new slot Twisted Sister from the developers at Play’n Go. As has become the trademark for the collaborative slot series from this developer, the narrative of this creation is strongly linked to the Inspiring Band and their songs, including a bonus round named after one of their most popular songs.

Rules & Gameplay

Unless Play’n Go does something, all the collaborative titles they release will continue feeling more or less like underdogs to the previously-released Testament Slot. Don’t get that wrong, the developers at Play’n Go always go the extra mile to forge decent slots, but Testament might have set the bar too high.

Twisted Sister, which comes after the Annihilator Slot is sure good-looking, but it still lacks that Testament Punch. With its 6X6 layout, however, it looks like a step-up from its immediate predecessor that played out on a typical 5X3 grid.

Popping the hood, the math model brags a not-so-bad 94.2% Return to Player percentage- the same as Annihilator’s and Testament’s. Besides that, it promises to dish out a decent €450000 on max, which is slightly lesser than what Annihilator brought to the table (€500000) and mediocre (for lack of a more demeaning word) compared to what Testament had the potential to offer on max (€2000000).

So, should you bother to give Twister Sister a go? Well, for one, if you like the band, that’s a definite yes as you will feel right at home from the moment the slot loads up to Mark Metcalf’s “What do you want to do with your life?” outburst just before the song I wanna rock starts blasting from the towering speakers on either side of the grid. Second and most importantly, Twisted Sister deviates from the hostile High Volatility mechanic we have seen with the other slots in Play’n Go’s rock collection to offer a friendlier medium-volatility mechanism, which will appeal to most players, metalheads or not.

Rocking with the Wins

As for triggering the wins, you will realize that the ambiguity of paylines has been replaced with the straightforward cluster-pays system. This means that payouts will be triggered whenever you line up groups of at least five identical symbols either horizontally or vertically anywhere on the grid.

Speaking of symbols, they are all related to the band. While the members represent the high-pays, differently-designed merch logos and a giant 2X2 symbol represent the medium-pays. As you would expect, Dee’s symbol is worth the most at 250X for a full grid.

2 Wilds

Mark Metcalf’s symbol pops up to collaborate with a regular wild card to substitute all the regular symbols. The Dad Gets Angry feature can activate on a random non-winning spin to award more of Metcalf’s wilds, which also act as scatters.

Cascading Reels

Whenever a winning combination is formed, the symbols that triggered it will disappear to allow others to gravitate from the top to potentially form a new winning combination. This can lead to any number of win combos that make it even easier to trigger the slot’s extras.

Charge up the Twanger

A winning combination involving the high-pay symbols will charge up the meter on the twanger with charges corresponding to the number of symbols involved. This meter can hold up to 15 charges, where 5 are the minimum required to trigger random Band Features, which can either award symbol transformations or make symbols disappear to trigger a cascade that could lead to a win.

We’re Not Gonna Take It Round

As already mentioned, any Mark Metcalf’s symbol appearing on the grid will also act as the scatter, and feed the meter on the upper left side, just above the twanger. At least 4 of these symbols are required to fill it up to gain you entry into the free spins, with any additional symbol boosting the round’s win multiplier by 1.

During the round, a giant 2X2 band symbol appears on the grid and then starts moving towards the triggering Angry Dad Symbols, which are scattered on the grid right before the We’re Not Gonna Take It Round begins. Upon reaching each, it is pushed out cinematically as winning combinations are continuously catalyzed by the movements as well as the Random Band features.

Conclusion

All up, Twisted Sister is another decent effort from Play’n Go. It brags impressive stats, potential, and a slew of promising extras that make the slot entertaining to play from the word go. True, it bows down to Testament, but it is a good and unique slot on its own, with its own moments to rock. That’s definitely worth checking out!
