LVS’ New York casino blocked by judge

A state judge has blocked the Nassau County government’s approval of Las Vegas Sands’ $4bn casino complex at the Nassau Coliseum site in New York.

Supreme Court Judge Sarika Kapoor ruled officials short-circuited the open meetings and environmental laws before voting to approve LVS’ 99-year lease agreement to construct the complex.

The lease is now void and the Nassau County legislature will have to restart the approval process. LVS said it is proceeding with its proposal for the casino complex despite the ruling.

The ruling follows lawsuits filed by Hofstra University, which sits next to the site and has been outspoken in opposition of the project.
