Despite severe damage to the attached hotel, the Mmabatho Palms Hotel, Casino and Convention Resort in South Africa was not badly affected by last week’s fire.

The flames razed to the ground much of the resort, but owner Peermont has confirmed that casino operations and the convention centre were largely unscathed, reports local trade magazine Gaming for Africa.

The four-star Walmont Hotel has been mostly destroyed although no one was injured. The resort is closed while investigations are carried out into the cause of the blaze, but the casino is expected to resume operations this week.
