Wynn Interactive’s WynnBET has scooped the first sports wagering operator licence in Massachusetts.

The company, part of Wynn Resorts, has succeeded with its application for a Category 3 licence, which will be tethered to a Category 1 licence for Wynn’s Encore Boston Harbor – which was approved last week.

Commissioners at the Massachusetts Gaming Commission voted unanimously on the move as it looks to launch retail sports wagering in late January and then online and mobile sports wagering in March.

The MGC is holding meetings throughout December to push through further licences.

BetMGM is looking to pick up a Category 3 licence which would be tethered to a potential MGM Springfield Category 1 licence.

Meanwhile, Plainridge Park Casino wants a Category 1 licence and subsequent Category 3 licences for Fanatics and Penn Sports Interactive.
