If Wynn Resorts CEO Matt Maddox has his way, then the Las Vegas Strip casinos will reopen in May.

He has produced a “health plan” for Nevada that he is urging state governor Steve Sisolak to adopt, says Fantini’s Gaming Report.

Any reopening of the Strip would come with very strict conditions, emphasises the plan. They would include the use of thermal cameras to measure body temperatures and social distancing would have to be used. Additionally, staff members and guests would have to wear masks.

Maddox is urging the plan on the governor to get the economy of the state moving again more quickly. His plan covers the rest of Las Vegas in some detail and would include a task force to focus on pandemic testing and data.

“Nevada will likely be one of the hardest-hit states in the country and will suffer high unemployment. It is imperative to flatten this curve so that we can re-emerge in a safe, sustainable way.”

Wynn is spending $3m each day on employee costs and in two months this would amount to $180m. The company has pledged to pay all full-time and part-time staff for 60 days, taking them through to May 15.
