The Wheel of Fortune slot game has reached its 25th anniversary – licensed by IGT from Sony Pictures, the game was launched in Reno, Nevada, in 1996.
It has become one of the highest-earning products in the history of the slot machine industry, creating over 1,000 millionaires and handing over $3.3bn in wins. It has had 250 variations in the series and the highest jackpot win of $14.4m.
Starting as a mechanical stepper-reel model, it has moved through all of the technology enhancements to True 4D. Said Suzanne Prete, Sony Pictures Television senior vice-president global licensing and brand management: “Wheel of Fortune slots’ jackpot-playing legacy and capacity to entertain across diverse generations, geographics and channels perfectly align with the brand.”
To mark the anniversary, IGT is running a 25 Weeks of Wheel of Fortune Slots campaign this month, with exclusive giveaways and player promotions and with an online trivia game spotlight and weekly contests.
