The sports betting industry shows little sign of slowing down in the US.
According to the Washington Times, there has been a 98 per cent increase in the amount wagered between 2021 and 2022.
And between 2020 and 2022 the figure has leapt to 569 per cent.
The newspaper is quoting the Variety Intelligence Platform. It said that when comparing year-over-year data between January and October, there are spikes such as $3.1bn in bets in 2019, rising to $11bn in 2020, then $37.1bn and finally this year to $73.3bn.
Sportsbooks are now legal in 25 US states, with two more at least coming this year – Massachusetts and Ohio.
