The word cloning is becoming synonymous with slot developer NetEnt. Not a bad thing, though, as they are aware of what they are doing. If it’s not expanding their influence in the orient region like with East Sea Dragon King and Happy Riches, it’s improving the gameplay, as well as bumping up the aesthetics of what they have released before as with Wonderland Protector and the newly-released Trollpot 5000, our focus in this review.

Getting straight to it, Trollpot 5000 is a clone of Grand Spinn, a slot that released in conjunction with a progressive sister slot, Grand Spinn Superpot. Lucky for us this time, that wasn’t so hard to figure out because of the peculiar one-payline layout shared by these slots- a 3X3 playing area where the upper and lower horizontal rows are retrofits of the middle row.

Math Model Stats, Appearance, Basic Rules

Being an outright clone, the statistics of the math model driving Trollpot 5000 are identical to those of the previously-released Grand Spinn™ slots. That means a Return to Player Percentage clocking in at exactly 96.19% coupled with a 5/5 high-volatility setting. Both of these stats work to produce great potential, which as you probably now from playing classic one-payline slots, isn’t easy to bag.

As you would expect from a revamp from NetEnt, Trollpot 5000 has spectacular graphics. The dull old-timey reels of the earlier releases have been replaced with lively neon-lit ones, which most would go for, including us. There’s also a new soundtrack that does a better job at placing you inside a brick and motor casino floor with its low-toned crowd mummer that almost engulfs an upbeat tune within earshot.

The wow factor extends to the paytable which throws up a few surprises with the appearance as well as the selection of its symbols. You get a spiffy Lucky Seven as the premium awarding 10X for three lined up on the active payline and random symbols such as mushrooms, stars, and bars acting subservient with rewards of up to 5X.

Getting Started plus Base Game Features

Getting started is beyond-easy, even for a first-timer. Just use the up and down coin value selectors on the controls tab to select the ideal total bet, and then set the reels in motion with the central spin button or the auto-play setting on its left. Also worth mentioning, you can switch to faster gameplay by hitting the fast-forward button located on the right side of the spin button.

As for the features, Trollpot 5000 keeps it simple, with them all springing from the nudge feature, which is activated after every win. And we are not talking about just one nudge as is typical of slots that come with this feature; there is a procession that starts from the first reel to the third, only stopping when the symbol above the nudging reel is different from the one that triggered the win. During this process, every successful nudge retriggers the initial win.

Reverse the Nudges!

A nudge could result in an arrow symbol facing upwards showing up on upper secondary reel. You will need this if you are eyeing hitting the max number of nudges per reel (14) as it awards all the successful ones for a second time.

Watch out for the Jester Wilds

Jester Wilds can appear on any reel to take the place of any regular symbol. On top of these substituting powers, they also carry a 2X multiplier that is subjected to the wins they are involved in. And things get better; jester Wilds can pay as much as the highest paying symbol in the paytable, which means that three jesters will trigger an aggregated win multiplier of 80X (2x2x2x10) before the nudges begin. Factor in the 42 nudges (presuming all 14 happen on each reel), and we are talking base game win multipliers of up to 3360X (42X80)!

Fixed Jackpot Prizes

The final nudge could bring up a mini, midi, or a mega jackpot symbol, which corresponds to fixed jackpot prizes of 20X, 100X, and 5000X. There are two possibilities here. One, you could land a mix of jackpot symbols, which awards the least jackpot out of the three, and two, landing 3-of-a-kind, which awards the corresponding jackpot prize.

Our Verdict

Grand Spinn™ Slots were a favorite for their simplicity, fun, and straightforward classic gaming that managed to nestle in a few witty features, including decent jackpots, for good measure. Trollpot 5000 repackages all that to offer faster and more exciting gameplay that might suit players drawn to old-school-themed slots better.

For those of you who wouldn’t have realized that Trollpot 5000 is a re-skin before reading this review, the only reason to go back to the older releases is because of the progressive cashpot. Even so, NetEnt might decide to clip this one in as well, but it shouldn’t really be a big deal even if they don’t.
