Its Latin American investments are “particularly pleasing” to Sun International’s CEO Anthony Leeming.



In his full year results report, Leeming said that the South American operation “showed resilience in the face of unexpected and widespread social unrest in Chile during the last quarter. Sun Dreams also demonstrated pleasing de-gearing and balance sheet strength.”

The major South African-based operator was able to report total income for the year up four per cent with profit before tax up 44 per cent to R1,582m (€83.087m) and EBITDA up by one per cent and by five per cent in South Africa.

Said Leeming: “Our goal for the year was to drive sustainable growth and profitability, unlock value in the business and reduce debt. We are pleased with the progress we have made against these goals that have assisted us in achieving extremely pleasing results against the backdrop of an increasingly challenging environment.”

He also reported that the online sporting betting business, SunBet, was doing well with an 82 per cent increase in income and an EBITDA of R44m (€2.3m).
