Two Sun International casinos in South Africa have become victims of the coronavirus pandemic – the Carousel Casino and the Naledi Casino are closing due to the virus and because of falling revenues in recent years.

The Naledi is situated in Thaba Nebu in the Free State and the Carousel in the north west. Sun is working with the relevant gaming boards and trade unions.

CEO Anthony Leeming said: “Given the unprecedented crisis that South Africa is facing, we accept that the auithorities have no option but to implement a country-wide lockdown to protect lives.

“However, the inevitable financial burden it placed on us has impacted our ability to continue subsidising under-performing properties.”
