Sun casinos well on way to recovery

Sun International, the South African casino operator, is now well on the way out of the pandemic effects and on the road to recovery.

The group’s half-year results showed income from casinos, Sun Slots and SunBet, making up 82 per cent of group income, up by 30 percent. Adjusted EBITDA margin improved by 29.1 per cent. From a loss of R7m earnings rose to R438m.

CEO Anthony Leeming said: “These exceptional results were achieved despite a trading environment which was impacted by the ongoing effects of the pandemic, power outages, increasing fuel prices, high inflation and international supply chain disruptions.

“The group was able to successfully defend and grow market share in most provinces, while income generated from Sun Slots recovered to exceed pre-pandemic levels.

“SunBet generated record income during the period under review and is well on its way to achieving our aggressive growth targets for this business.”
