Star fails with independent monitor move

The Star Entertainment Group has failed in an attempt to appoint an independent monitor to oversee its activities at its Sydney casino.

The New South Wales Independent Casino Commission has ruled against the move.

Nicholas Weeks was initially appointed by the NICC following the suspension of the company’s casino licence and A$100m fine.

Last week, Star said it had brought in Allen & Overy Consulting to assist with the monitoring of it remedial actions, but it also said that the NICC would not endorse that decision.

The company said that it made the appointment for its own purposes to measure the actions of its management.
