New dedicated smoking areas within the SunCoast Casino in Durban, South Africa, has reigniting the debate over the whole subject of smoking bans in casinos.
The sale of cigarettes is currently banned by national regulation as a protection against the spread of Covid-19, but the practice is not banned in the casinos which were recently reopened.
SunCoast has just opened a new smoking area with gaming with 40 slots, but as local newspapers report, while the sale of cigarettes is banned, smoking them is not. The South African Government has confirmed that smoking inside a dedicated area of a casino is allowed.
SunCoast owners, Tsogo Sun is quoted as saying that changes to the casino floor are in line with the required regulations.
