As part of its ten-year anniversary celebration, the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino not only has a new general manager but has also revealed plans for a $10 million renovation for the coming year.

Renovation plans reportedly include the property’s entire interior, including 503 rooms and suites, lobby, and 35,000 sq ft of meeting space. San Juan headquartered developer Interlink Construction will be in charge of carrying out the improvements, which are scheduled to be completed sometime between October 1st, 2020 and December 31, 2020.

Roberto Mosquera, the property’s new general manager, who according to Travel Agent Central is responsible for daily operations and overall hotel performance, brings with him more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality sector, said…

“We are extremely happy and with great expectations with the new image that this renewal brings us. We are always focused on the legacy of the core values of the Sheraton brand and the integrated vision of Marriott International, putting our associates first so they can take care of our guests and come back again and again,” according to a press release cited by a media outlet.

Also commenting on the planned renovation, President & Chief Executive Officer for Interlink, Federico Sánchez, added…

The new proposal will incorporate elements that reflect the relaxing atmosphere of the destination and with our commitment to continue being a key addition to the continued vision of San Juan as a world-renowned tourist destination,” as reported by G3Newswire.

According to the media outlet, the renovations are to also include a full year of events and promotions. Director of sales and marketing for the property, Jeannette Aviles, said…

“We are proud of this project which is focused on bringing the new image of the Sheraton brand, developing atmosphere and spaces for the enjoyment of the community,” said Jeannette Aviles, director of sales and marketing for the property.’

Announced by Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Inc and Interlink Group in September 2009, the property was at the time the first new full-service hotel and casino built in San Juan in over 10 years, and was part of a $6 billion worldwide effort to revitalize the Connecticut headquartered company’s most global, iconic brand.

In 2016, Marriott International closed on its $13 billion acquisition of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, which joined its Marriott, Courtyard and Ritz Carlton brands with Starwood’s Sheraton, Westin, W and St. Regis properties, which made it the largest hotel chain in the world at the time.

Located adjacent to the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan’s commercial and residential district, within an easy commute to the Isla Grande Airport, Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino (Casino Metro) is San Juan’s largest casino and features more than 400 slot machines and 19 table games.
