Seminole Tribe loses stay appeal

Home » Seminole Tribe loses stay appeal

The Seminole Tribe of Florida has lost its request for a stay of a court order invalidating its gaming compact that would allow sports betting in Florida.

The US District Court ruled that the tribe could not prove irreparable harm by having to stop its sports betting operations while the case works its way through the courts.

The tribe, which starting taking bets earlier this month, had continued taking them after the initial ruling that said the compact violates the federal law limiting tribal gaming to being on tribal land.

The tribe and Florida have said it is sufficient for the servers handling online wagers to be on Seminole land.
