First stand-alone casino in Virginia, Rivers Casino Portsmouth, owned and managed by Chicago-based Rush Street Gaming, publicly announced $24.7 million in gaming income in its first full month of operation, according to the Virginia Lottery Board.

Both Virginia’s casinos bring high revenues to the state:

According to the board’s February activity report that was officially unveiled Wednesday, the casino made a total of $38.4 million in profits from the two operating casinos in Virginia.

In this regard, Rivers Casino was officially licensed to operate in November and officially opened on January 23, and another casino in Virginia, The Hard Rock Bristol, will open in July 2024.

High income:

The casino raised a total of $4.4 million in tax income, of which almost $1.5 million went to the city in a regional fund for transportation, education and public safety improvements.

However, that’s not the only place the tax profit shares have gone, as the state’s Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund and the Family and Children’s Trust Fund also received tax shares.

After the first week and a half after officially opening, the Portsmouth casino posted $9 million in gaming income.

On that note, Roy Corby, general manager of Rivers Casino Portsmouth, previously told the Virginian-Pilot and repeated Wednesday: “Demand is usually high in the beginning and I expect it to normalize over time.

“We are grateful to our team members, guests and the community for their continued support.”

Casino layout:

The 250,000-square-foot casino, found on Victory Boulevard close to Tidewater Community College, has almost 1,500 slot machines, almost a dozen restaurants, two dozen poker tables and other benefits.
