There will be no second casino on Queensland’s Gold Coast. The Australian state’s government has ceased to pursue the licensing process for a second venue as an agreement with the Global Tourism Hub on taxation could not be finalised.
The only location in the region currently is operated by Star Entertainment (SGR). The announcement means that SGR and the government will stop talks about casino exclusivity and SGR will no longer have to pay the one-time US$70m fee for exclusivity.
