The new police commissioner for New South Wales, Australia, has lent her support to the campaign to bring in cashless gaming cards for slot machines to help stamp out money laundering.

Karen Webb (pictured) said that the misuse of cash in gambling is “a hole that needs to be closed.” Webb is backing a Crime Commission campaign for cashless play in New South Wales’ 95,000 poker machines, led by prime minister Dominic Perrottet.

Perrottet is committed to bringing in the cards following an inquiry by the Crime Commission that suggested A$95bn (€60m) passed through the NSW poker machines in 2020-21.
