A new luxury casino-resort in Greece won’t be open until 2026, the developers, US casino company Mohegan Gaming, has announced and reported in Yahoo Finance.

The venue, on the site of the old Athens Airport, will be a joint venture between Mohegan and Greek construction group GEK Terna. They will have a 30-year licence for the casino.

Mohegan’s CEO Ray Pineault said: “We anticipate that upon conclusion of the contractual negotiation process, permissions and design will take 12 to 18 months and the opening will be in 2025/6.”

The project is part of a wider development of the airport site that will cost $9.68bn and will include housing, shopping malls and hotels.
