Michigan Breaks Revenue Records in Online Gambling Sector

Home » Michigan Breaks Revenue Records in Online Gambling Sector

Online casino gaming is booming across the States, and another proof of that is the exponentially rising trend in Michigan – one of the latest states to legalize online casino gambling and sports betting. And most of these Michigan online casinos are reviewed at sites like UScasinos.com.

Compared to previous year, Michigan’s Internet gaming revenue has risen by 34%. The latest released report, in July, shows it was the state’s most successful month yet revenue-wise.

Online Gaming Revenue

The total gross receipts revenue in 2022, up to and including July, is $883,638,698. Up to this point, the state’s online casinos have paid $24,137,470 in tax alone. The revenue statistics show that everyone can benefit from legalization and sets an example that different states should follow.

It’s far better when players have the option of safe online casinos in their home state, rather than having to resort to murky offshore sites, a problem which persists even today.

These numbers are more impressive when we consider that Michigan legalized online casino gambling in 2021. If we compare Michigan to New Jersey, where online casinos are legal since 2013, the revenue difference is only about 10% so far in 2022.

It’s not online casinos alone that bring in gaming revenue to Michigan. When we consider sports betting, the numbers are just as impressive. In 2022, up to and including July, the total gross betting receipts amount to over $188,000,000. The total sports handle, meaning actual money wagered, is over $2,500,000,000.

We anticipate that Michigan’s revenues and wagering tax information statistics will keep improving until the end of the year.

Fantasy Sports are doing well also, with FanDuel and DraftKings leading the charts. FanDuel’s revenue so far sits at $2,216,355 and DraftKings’ is at $4,224,606.

Back to casinos, the most successful Internet gaming operator in Michigan is MGM Grand Detroit, the company behind BetMGM Online Casino. They lead the charts by a country mile, recording $333,149,007 in gross receipts so far.

The not-so close second is the Bay Mills Indian Community, who share their license to DraftKings online casino. Their revenues so far are impressive, but only a third of BetMGM’s, sitting at $135,087,503.

The state of Michigan doesn’t publish detailed statistics on where exactly wagers are placed, but it’s safe to assume it’s not poker or table games. Data shows that peak player count in any 24 hour period at the best poker site, Poker Stars, is just north over 300.

Lucrative Vertical

It’s obvious that BetMGM’s apps filled with hundreds of slots are the culprit here. Just like in land casinos, online casino players love slots. And the variety and choices online are virtually limitless.

From adapted classics to online play like Cleopatra, to new releases like Hypernova Megaways, White Rabbit Megaways, and famous online games such as Starburst, Bonanza and Dead or Alive, the online casino world holds fantastic choices for prospective Michigan players.

It’s unfortunate to see some states’ slow or zero progress in passing gambling bills, especially in big states like California, but Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, West Virginia and most recently – Connecticut show that legalizing internet gambling is a win for everyone.

Hopefully, more and more states follow this example so that players won’t have to move states to play, or even worse; resort to unreliable offshore sites with unverified software and games.
