MGM Resorts is reportedly returning to its plan to acquire the UK’s gambling company Entain, a project it abandoned two years ago.

The Financial Mail on Sunday newspaper in the UK reports strong rumours that the US operator wants to take over the parent company of Ladbrokes, Coral and Gala Bingo.

Its attempt at bidding for the British group in 2021 failed when its £8.1bn offer was considered too low by the Entain board.

It is believed that Entain is currently worth around £1m more than it was two years ago, but much will depend upon what is contained in the long-overdue government white paper of proposals for redesigning the Gambling Act. That document is now expected some time in March.

Entain is MGM Resorts’ partner in the online betting company BetMGM, which is one of the main players in the US sports betting industry.
