More than 80 per cent of Thais support legalising casinos, according to local media outlet The Thaiger and reported by Inside Asian Gaming.

A survey of 3,296 people was conducted in various areas of the country that have been identified as potential locations for legalised casino resorts. Out of the total number of participants, 80.67 per cent agreed that casinos should be legalised.

According to the Thai Casino Committee in releasing the survey, other statistics to emerge included 64 per cent suggesting that a casino should be accompanied by a department store, 40 per cent want a spa and massage centre and 39 per cent wanted a casino to be attached to banks. Only 37 per cent opted for a stand-alone casino.

The survey results will be submitted to the President of the National Assembly on July 27, hopefully to be followed by a debate in parliament.
