Macau visitation remains soft and there is no stimulant for strong growth in the first half of next year, GGRAsia quoted Macau Government Tourism Office Director Helena Fernandes.

Visitation continues to be hurt by political protests in Hong Kong, China’s weak economy and traffic controls implemented around the upcoming visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping, she said.

Visitation may not exceed 40 million this year due to those factors, she added. Macau had 33.413 million visitors through October, 15.3 per cent over last year.

Meanwhile, the gaming industry’s share of Macau’s economy has increased since 2016 from 46.7 per cent to 50.5 per cent at $27.4bn, according to the Statistics and Census Bureau.
